DR. BERNARD OKOE-BOYE

MINISTER, MINISTRY OF HEALTH, GHANA

Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye is a Politician and a Medical Doctor by Profession. He is the newly appointed Minister for the Ministry of Health, Ghana. Dr Okoe Boye was previously Deputy Minister at the Ministry. He was a member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Ledzokuku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. He served as the boss of the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA) mandated to run the affairs of Ghana’s premium health insurance scheme, the National Health Insurance Scheme. He was once the Board Chairman of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the nation's largest medical facility. As the Board Chair of the Hospital, Dr. Okoe-Boye worked with his Board Members and relevant stakeholders to make Korle Bu attain higher heights, particularly to maintain its position as the leading teaching hospital and national referral centre.

Dr Oko-Boye is a licensed medical practitioner who obtained a Masters Degree in Public Health from Hamburg School of Applied Sciences, A1 Certificate in German from Goethe Institute. He again obtained another Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Accra Business School. He obtained B.S.C in Medicine and Surgery from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a medical license from Medical and Dental Council.

Okoe-Boye had his house job at the Ghana Health Service from 2009 to 2012 at the Central Regional Hospital, Department of Surgery, Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Cape Coast from 2009 to 2011 and then at the Department of Internal Medicine, Tema General Hospital. He then continued as a medical officer in the same institution for four years where he worked at the Kibi Government Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the La General Hospital. Dr Oko-Boye continued as a Medical Officer with the Ghana Health Service until 2016. Prior to his entry into parliament, Oko-Boye was a medical officer at the LekMA Hospital in Accra.

Dr Bernard Okoe Boye is part of national Covid 19 management team and has been in frontline of communication of strategies and government plans on managing COVID-19 pandemic. The entire nation looks up to the young medical doctor to exhibit his expertise to help manage and contain the coronavirus pandemic which he has shown leadership and sacrifice. Dr Okoe-Boye performs media tour on COVID strategy and has tremendously exhibited himself to the satisfactions of Ghanaians.
