Elizabeth Oywer, (KRN, DAN, BSN, MA & MSN)
NURSING EDUCATION AND PRACTICE CONSULTANT
Elizabeth is a seasoned nurse who has made contribution to all spheres of health in general and nursing in particular locally, regionally (East Africa and ECSA region) and internationally where she served as a board member for the International Council of Nurses (ICN) representing Africa Region. Her immediate previous assignment as Registrar/CEO for the Nursing Council of Kenya was very remarkable. She established a database of nurses in collaboration with Emory University and CDC, upgraded over 10,000 certificate nurses to diploma and degree level in conjunction with Amref Health Africa and mentored several regulatory bodies in the African region either to establish or strengthen existing ones.
At the moment, she has retired from public service and has established a full-time consultancy after her last assignment in the Ministry of Health as the Director of Nursing services dealing with policy and quality agenda. She holds two masters’ degrees in mental health (University of South Africa) and nursing education (University of Dundee). Apart from these, she has done and taught specialized courses in Leadership, Governance and Research.
Elizabeth is a proud recipient of RADM Julia Plotnick publication award (2007) in recognition of the contribution to public health and nursing policy. She also earned a Presidential Award OGW (2011) in recognition of the contribution in nursing education, practice and research in Kenya. Her area of interest is workforce development, leadership and regulations. In fact Elizabeth’s major objective is to make a positive contribution in global health through policy development, dialogue and implementation
