Richard Okyere Boadu
Dr. Richard Okyere Boadu’s career story is a tapestry of relentless pursuit of knowledge, impactful contributions to public health, and dedication to shaping future leaders. His journey began with a foundation in technology, earning a BSc in Computer Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 1999. He recognised the intersection between technology and health and furthered his education with a Master’s in Health Services Planning & Management (2004) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Information Systems (2008). In 2016, Dr. Boadu achieved his crowning academic milestone with a PhD in Public Health from KNUST, complemented by professional certifications in Project Management and Quality Improvement from prestigious international institutions.
Dr. Boadu’s professional trajectory spans over two decades. His career commenced as a Data Manager at KNUST, where he honed his expertise in health information systems. Transitioning into global health, he held pivotal roles such as Monitoring & Evaluation Advisor for the Population Council, Institute for Healthcare Improvement/National Catholic Health Service, and Jhpiego, where his leadership advanced public health initiatives in Ghana and beyond.
In academia, Dr. Boadu ascended to the role of Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in 2021. His leadership was exemplified as Head of the Department of Health Information Management (2022–2024), where he spearheaded curriculum development and quality assurance.
A researcher at heart, Dr. Boadu focuses on public health, data quality, and eHealth systems. His work has earned recognition, such as the Rising Star Bursary at the Informatics for Health Conference in the UK. He has presented groundbreaking research at international forums.
Dr. Boadu’s dedication to education is evident in his extensive teaching portfolio, which encompasses courses on Data Quality Assessment and Improvement, Human Resource Management in Healthcare, Project Management, Quality Assessment and improvement and Group Processes, Team Building, and leadership. He has supervised 49 undergraduate projects and mentored the next generation of public health professionals.
Dr. Boadu’s leadership extends beyond the classroom. At UCC, he has chaired key committees, driving departmental upgrades and institutional growth initiatives. His contributions to boards and academic bodies reflect a commitment to advancing the university's mission.
Dr. Boadu has an extensive body of refereed publications, showcasing his leadership in health information systems, digital health, and quality improvement in healthcare delivery. His research spans mixed methods, quantitative and qualitative studies, reflecting multidisciplinary collaborations across global health domains. His scholarly output underpins advancements in healthcare quality, particularly within resource-limited settings, combining technological innovation with practical application to address critical global health challenges.
