PROFILE

Frances Ganges is a midwife, nurse, and global public health professional with nearly four decades’ experience spanning 30 countries, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa. Ms. Ganges is an accomplished leader and strategist, with deep experience in developing and implementing projects and programs in a variety of settings. Expert in bringing together diverse stakeholders, she has led collaborative efforts with colleagues from government, public health, civil society, NGO, corporate, and scientific affairs, around policy and programmatic initiatives.

Currently, Ms. Ganges is a Senior Maternal Newborn Advisor at Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University Affiliate. In this role, she provides leadership and strategic technical guidance in the development and implementation of several global and country programs, while ensuring the soundness of these programs, based on current scientific evidence.

Her prior positions include Chief Executive of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM); Scientific Engagement Leader with Johnson and Johnson, for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region; Technical Director, White Ribbon Alliance, USA; and Senior Newborn Advisor, Save the Children, where she was lead author on a newborn care manual. Committed to quality education and training, Ms. Ganges has also contributed to the development of numerous learning resources for health providers; served as a midwifery pre-service educator; and facilitated countless in-service training programs. She also laid the groundwork for a nurse training school in rural Uganda, which will soon celebrate 25 years.

A native New Yorker, Frances has lived in Uganda, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Kenya. She is currently a PhD student at Maastricht University in The Netherlands.
